Gait Analysis
What is Gait Analysis?
Gait analysis involves walking or running on our treadmill while we assess your gait (movement) using slow motion video footage.
We are then able to demonstrate and advise on changes – this could involve the use of orthotics, strength exercises, or simply thinking about the way your body is moving.
Theres several aims of a gait analysis including being able to walk/run easier, with less pain, more efficient or quicker.

Not at all! Serious runners can certainly benefit from a gait analysis and it could potentially be the difference between getting a podium finish or not! But equally people starting out running can find just as much, if not more value in a gait analysis. Improving your technique will make your running more efficient, meaning you run easier and quicker, with less impact on the body and therefore can reduce injuries.
Often running shops that offer a gait analysis are doing so to sell you a shoe, and therefore normally only look at your foot placement to see if you need a ‘stability’ running trainer.
Your foot placement is only one area of running, we look at 13 key areas of running technique across the whole body.
The first half of the session involves having you on the treadmill and getting video footage from different angles for analysis. We will then get you to do some simple tests using our high-tech force plates which will demonstrate any asymmetries between left and right foot placement and take off – something that to our knowledge no other clinics are using as part of their gait analysis!
We will then start looking through the together and discuss the easy to change parts of your gait. You’ll then get back on the treadmill thinking about the changes discussed and get some more footage.
Following the session is when the majority of the analysis is done. A report will be sent explaining the areas you can improve, with video footage, including the results of the force plate tests.
