Sports Massage FAQ At Pur Hertfordshire & Bishop's Stortford Clinic

Sports massage doesn’t need to hurt to be effective. When the muscles are tight and sore, massage can become tender but this can be tailored to you by your clinician. Some people prefer a very deep massage, so if you want it firmer just say. Others prefer a lighter massage so again, if its too firm, just say.

When preparing for an event, whether it’s a 10k, the marathon, a cycling event, or any other event, we recommend regular sports massages leading up to it to reduce injury risk and aid recovery after training.
We do not recommend having a massage on the morning of the event.
We do recommend having a massage following the event, either the same day or following day to reduce delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS) and aide recovery

Unless you are coming in with an injury, then no you will not need an assessment. Just book a massage, come in and enjoy!

It is advisable to bring a pair of loose shorts if you are attending for a leg massage. For upper body massages the removal of clothing may be required. We have clean towels available to keep you as covered as possible. If you would prefer not to dress down, please wear loose fitting clothing. Please feel free to bring a chaperone if you wish.

We are registered with all major health insurance companies including Bupa, Aviva, Axa, Cigna, Simply Health, Vitality, Healix and Aetna. Not all insurance policies cover the use of sports massage as a form of injury treatment and all policies do vary slightly, so if in doubt please contact your insurance.
