Ultrasound-Guided Injections FAQ
By using ultrasound to guide the needle it allows us to
- Accurately target the affected tissue or joint to ensure the injection is placed exactly where it’s needed
- Avoid surrounding nerves and blood vessels
- Increase the effectiveness of the injection
- Improve safety and patient comfort
We offer two main types of injections:
1. Corticosteroid injections
Fast-acting anti-inflammatory relief for conditions such as:
Shoulder bursitis, frozen shoulder, trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, and joint flare-ups in osteoarthritis.
2. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) injections
Help restore joint lubrication, reduce stiffness, and support long-term joint health. Ideal for:
Mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, ankle, shoulder, thumb, or big toe
These injections can help reduce pain, improve movement, and support your rehabilitation—whether you want to stay active, delay surgery, or return to daily activities with confidence.
Most people tolerate injections well. Some may experience mild soreness, bruising, or swelling at the injection site. A temporary flare of pain can occur in the first 24–48 hours. Serious side effects are rare but can include infection or allergic reaction.
You’ll be given tailored post-injection advice, but generally:
- Avoid strenuous activity or heavy lifting for 48 hours
- Keep the injection site clean and dry
- Resume normal movement gently as pain improves
- Steroid injections may take 2–7 days to reduce inflammation and ease pain.
- Hyaluronic Acid (HA) may take longer (1–2 weeks) to improve joint mobility and reduce stiffness.
Improvements can continue to build over several weeks lasting up to 6 months
